Have breakfast, will travel!

This is kinda like a cheat post but a friend sent 50 of the world's best breakfasts via email and i spent some half an hour scrutinising all the breakfast spreads, trying to decide which was my favourite. They all looked seriously gorgeously yummy. One day i hope to be able to say i've sampled all fifty. Hmm I'm surprised Hong Kong's dim sum/ yum cha didn't make the list. Oh and if Singapore does, i vote Kaya Toast with cold hard butter pieces and 2 soft-boiled eggs with light and dark soya sauce and pepper, and kopi served in those vintage coffee cups and saucer. I can just imagine what the photo will look like already. Mm-mmm. Looks like i should head on down to Chin Mee Chin, my favourite childhood breakfast place along East Coast Road this weekend!

Yangon, Myanmar

On a recent 3-day work trip to Yangon, i kinda fell in love with Burmese food.

Nan gyi thok - its like pho or laksa thick rice noodle with some kind of peanutty curry gravy and garnished with toasted chickpea flour, sliced onions, chilies, crispy noodles, slices of hard-boiled egg, and zested with lime. The flavours! Absolutely yummy.

We were treated to an authentic burmese sit-down meal and by sit-down i mean sitting on the floor cross-legged around a low round table. Dish after dish was served, almost like the side dishes in a korean meal... the dishes all had a curious look about them and i enjoyed this lunch very much.

Oh and fresh sliced garlic with fish sauce and lime and cut chilli as dip - loved loved loved it! i must try and make that some time.

I must try their famous mohinga next time!

Shanghai Sensibilities

28-30 November 2011

Probably the last work trip to Shanghai and my first time flying in and out of Pudong Terminal 1. Got this picture off the net cos forgot to take picture. Wanted to talk about Terminal One's super clever roof truss design. Like magic, you can hardly see any truss structure! Bottom chord of truss painted black so all you see are the white vertical members that look like interior design treatment to the ceiling. Clever right? Even the detail of how the vertical member meets the bottom chord is well-designed and even has a small light fixture tucked neatly inside.
