shanghai-hangzhou-zhouzhuang. mar-apr 2005

I cannot for the life of me remember the sequence of our trip or which temple belongs to which province, so don't sue me if the info shared is not correct!

Museum, Shanghai. Lai Yeow, Teik and Don appreciating Chinese calligraphy. Only Teik can read Chinese. Go figure.

Yuefei Temple, Hangzhou

We need a zither or guzhen to complete this picture.

Yuyuan Gardens, Shanghai

Nanjing Lu in the evening, Shanghai

^ Shanghai Moon Restaurant - old Shanghai flavour interior & Shanghainese cuisine

^ Shintori Restaurant - nice interior, yummy food and dubious toilet signages - one was a brinjal and the other was 2 tangerines if i remember correctly.

^ Yong He - Teik's favourite breakfast place, or was it Don's?

^ Dinner at Jessie's, i remember it was quite crowded so we ate on the 2nd Storey... ha ha so informative huh.

^ Breakfast with Rebec & Zhiyong when we first arrived, i think...

^ Group dinner with Zhiyong & Rebecca, Weiloong & Pam at... uh... was this Xiao Nan Guo? in Xin Tian Di? hmm maybe not...

Fabric Market, Dong Jia Du Lu, where Lai Yeow and me made a cheongsam each, and Don did a couple of shirts. Heard the Fabric Market is no longer around, just like Xiang Yang Shi Chang, where Lai Yeow and me got a couple of bags from a persistent young lady who led us through narrow alleyways to her dingy looking shop.

Bamboo Grove, enroute Hangzhou, i think...

Mei Jia Chun green tea plantation, or was it Mei Jia Wu, or was it even Mei Jia at all?? oops. We were somewhat enchanted by the dancing Long Jing tea leaves that we bought a couple boxes of top grade spring Long Jing tea leaves back.

We had to go into the kitchen to point to the dishes we wanted for lunch cos evidently i wasn't the only one with less than excellent Mandarin skills

Boatride at Xihu, Hangzhou, where Lai Yeow aptly hummed that childhood chinese song that goes lan lan de tian kong, yun he li (okay i know what lan lan de tian kong is but what on earth is yun he li??)

Teik's precious heat pack and Don has my scarf wrapped around his mouth - gross!

Don has a cold neck and Teik has cold hands *giggles*

School, Hangzhou

spring/ autumn flowers photographed by Lai Yeow

erm... i'll come back to this one.

Shanghai, something something shi chang or is it guang chang.

hah! i know this one! He Ping Fan Dian... duh.

it would have been nice to stay here...

Liu He Pagoda, Hangzhou and no, thats not Nezha

(L-R) Lai Yeow, Don, Teik, Me. Oh wait a minute the double ok sign is a Lai Yeow trademark but then again i don't think i'd have done the flying pose either. Omg and maybe i got Don & Teik wrong too cos suddenly the 3rd person's hair looks like Don's.

The Bund, Shanghai

Zhou Zhuang, where we were on the wrong end of learning that persistence does pay off. and the price? a less than satisfying lunch with freaking tiny prawns that we had to deshell on our own

Cafe in Zhou Zhuang

Dressing Room at one of the boutiques along Chang Le Lu, Shanghai. Waiting for Don to do the catwalk.

Don, don't drop the baby! Our last day at Zhiyong & Rebec's place in Pudong, Shanghai

starbucks, shanghai

Featuring Travel Buddies: LaiYeow, TeikGuan, Donovan. With special appearances by Weiloong, Zhiyong, Rebecca & Yuzhe
