Istanbul

With the dust of Cappadocia still on our shoes, we boarded a turkish airlines plane and headed back to Istanbul, where it all began. I'm so glad we're ending our Turkey trip right where we started, with Istanbul. Feels like we've gone one full circle. And a complete circle is always good right?

Istanbul - Tueday 25 May

Since we stayed in the new town when we arrived, naturally we'd choose to stay in the old town this time. At BW Obelisk. We finally found out what the BW initials in our hotel name stood for and shook our head having arrived at what seemed like the set of a cowboy film. You almost expect to see a fake cactus further up and some cowboy's spurs lying on the ground. BW = Best Western. Uh-huh. Very unistanbul, very un-happy. But it's okay, i'm too travel-happy to let this get me down plus we only get back when its dark and you know how things always look better in the dark don't you? heh.

Another curious waiter who wanted to have a go with Teik's toy.

I don't know why but it seemed i was the only hungry guz here. So so so hungry.

The Ara$ta Bazaar. Enuf $aid.

Thought we'd hang out at the old town today since we haven't explored it at all other than doing all the historic sites on the first day.

Hilarious dinner but it wasn't very funny actually. Oh oh oh i remember what totally cracked us up now. It seems like at this restaurant, the waiter's tactic to get customers is to go up to passers-by and pin-point their nationality in their face. like "Hello, you German?" "Hello, Japanese?" But when it came to "Hello Yindian" and i look up and it was indeed an indian couple... it just sounded so wrong.

Thought the Blue Mosque looked rather nice in the evening light and hung out here for a bit.

Ayasofya framed by the doors of the Blue Mosque compound.

Ayasofya

Back to the Blue Mosque again.

Istanbul - Wednesday 26 May

We always had to walk pass the Blue Mosque and Ayasofya to get to the Sultanahmet tram stop and i'm so not complaining :)

Grand Bazaar Day!

I love all these pretty lamps!

Cheryl's really into antiques! I can't believe i never realised this before!

After scouring the Antique Market at the Grand Bazaar, she got her prize! It's really good-looking i must say.

From the Grand Bazaar, we weaved through Long Market Street, where the locals do their shopping, in search of the Rustem Pasha Mosque enroute the Egyptian Spice Market.

It's approximately a 20-30 minute walk but we found it!

Arriving at the Egyptian Spice Bazaar!

Lunch after marketing!

Headed back to the new town for last minute shopping of presents for family and friends.

Heh. I'm taking this photo only cos i just bought myself a scarf that for some reason makes me very happy. It's either the colours or the flower prints. Happy happy happy.

Going across Galata Bridge back to the old town. The dusk view of the mosque and old town against the sea and sky backdrop was really picturesque.

Trying to capture the seagulls' flying frenzy.

Istanbul - Thursday 27 May
Our last day in Turkey boohoo...

WOW...I'm impressed! And very very happy that you did such a detailed blog account. It's so nice to read through it 'cos I had already forgotten some of the things that happened during the trip and it's like - "oh yes, that happened!" I'm sure it'll be even more nostalgic to re-read this entry years from now. :) :) :)
